Windsor Olympus Academy is fully committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure all of our students make outstanding progress and fully reach their full academic and personal potential irrespective of their needs or abilities.
Special Educational Needs (SEND) can affect a child or young person’s ability to learn or socialise. We provide support for students with needs in all four categories of SEND, as outlined in the Code of Practice:
Communication and interaction
Cognition and learning
Social, emotional and mental health
Sensory and/or physical
Our SEND Policy and Special Educational Needs and Disability Information report outlines the support we provide for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Both Sandwell and Birmingham Council have created a video to walk parents, carers and young people through how Sandwell identifies children with additional needs and provides them with extra support. The videos can be found here:
Both Sandwell and Birmingham’s Local Offer is a new one stop shop website for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their parents and carers.
The Local Offer webpage for both councils contain a wealth of up to date information on areas which include education, training and work, health, leisure and fun, care and moving into adulthood.
The websites aim to help young people and parents to make individual, informed, positive decisions and choices.
At Windsor Olympus Academy:
We are committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best progress for all of our students irrespective of their needs or abilities.
Support is based on the notion that learning occurs in context rather than in isolation – our support is therefore focused wherever possible in the classroom supporting the student, the curriculum and the teacher with specialised interventions where appropriate and needed. Teaching staff are expected to make reasonable adjustments to their teaching through differentiation to ensure the needs of all SEND students are met but making sure that Quality First teaching is at the heart of all what we do which makes an inclusive classroom and benefits all
All Special Educational Needs (SEND) students will be offered full access to a broad, balanced and relevant education. This includes access to all school life including all extra curricular activities so pupils have the opportunity to reach their full academic and personal potential.
